The Olympia Exhibition centre in West London was built in 1886. Over its lifetime it has played host to thousands of events, conferences and exhibitions, including Crufts, the ideal home show and Jimi Hendrix.
But, in recent times the original buildings have become 'barnacled' with unsightly additions and the perimeter closed-off to the wider public. Heatherwick Studio was hired to re-imagine Olympia as a cultural hub for music, film and art in a new £1bn project. We produced a film to explain the concept and generate public engagement.
The film uses a combination of footage, archive material and motion graphics collaged together referencing the rich history of Olympia. It explores the recent decline of the venue, the major issues facing it today and finally the bold new proposals from Heatherwick’s design studio.
