IT SUPPORT ENGINEER

Reporting to the Head of IT. 

Squint/Opera is a design studio that brings together media production, digital technology and design to articulate, promote and execute the big ideas. We have studios in London and New York, and an international portfolio of clients including BIG, UNStudio, the Empire State Building, Heatherwick Studio, and the V&A. We value pioneering attitudes, collaborative work and dedicated, generous individuals. 

Like other media companies we have a large IT footprint, lots of different software and tools,  and a large render server farm. The IT team therefore needs to expand to provide support and maintenance as our IT footprint increases. 

Up to 50% of this role will be to work closely supporting the Technical Director on series production for our award winning children’s TV programme which kicks off in early summer and is an exciting opportunity for the right individual to gain varied experience across different types of media production.

SUMMARY

We are looking for a 2nd/3rd line Technical Support Engineer to provide pro-active support to our production team working across a broad range of technologies. You will be relied upon to diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues including account setup and network configuration. The role involves 1st line support to 3rd line support, must have can do attitude along with good communication and technical skills. In this role you will have a problem-solving attitude along with the ability to give clear technical instructions. Office based full-time role, occasional weekend work will be required and compensated with time off in lieu. 

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • /  Addressing user tickets regarding hardware, software and networking
  • /  Build and install PCs, Macs, telephone systems, wireless networks and peripheral devices related to desktop infrastructure
  • /  Manage and deploy software licenses
  • /  Maintain installations with routine maintenance
  • /  Manage and troubleshoot conferencing solutions (Webex, Zoom, Skype etc.)
  • /  Ensure all issues are properly logged
  • /  Prioritise and manage several open issues at any one time
  • /  Tracking issues through to resolution
  • /  Properly escalate unresolved issues to Head of IT & Production Director
  • /  Keeping IT records up to date and accurate
  • /  Document technical knowledge in the form of standards
  • /  Move computers and desks when needed, oversee office moves

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

Required

  • /  3 years experience as a IT Support Engineer or similar role in a creative production or post-production environment 
  • /  Hands on experience with Windows /Mac OS environments
  • /  Microsoft Server, up to 2016 / 2019
  • /  Active Directory / Group Policy
  • /  Experience of Deployment tools like Microsoft SCCM
  • /  Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot basic technical issues 
  • /  Ability to provide step by step technical help, both written and verbal 
  • /  Familiarity with remote desktop applications
  • /  Familiarity with FTP
  • /  Experience of some level of Security/Firewall devices
  • /  Performing Tape Backup & Restore using Backup Exec.
  • /  Centrally Managed Antivirus
  • /  Office365 or Google Gsuite experience
  • /  Basic networking and patching

Desirable

  • /  Experience and understanding of Linux systems
  • /  Relevant certifications (e.g. MCP, MCSE, ITIL)
  • /  Degree in relevant field (e.g. Computer Science, Networking, Information Systems)

PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

Reporting to the Head of Production

Squint/Opera is a design studio that brings together media production, digital technology and design to articulate, promote and execute the big ideas. We have studios in London and New York, and an international portfolio of clients including BIG, UNStudio, the Empire State Building, Heatherwick Studio, and the V&A. We value pioneering attitudes, collaborative work and dedicated, generous individuals. 

SUMMARY

This role will involve assisting the production management team to manage a broad range of projects from linear content to interactive software and immersive installations. There may be times where, reporting to the project producer, you will be responsible for the complete delivery of small scale projects according to brief, timelines and budget; managing both creative and technical teams in house and externally. 

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Production

  • Plans working schedules and resources in line with production milestones alongside the producers
  • Setting up contracts and managing freelancers, sub-contractors and external collaborators based in the UK and overseas
  • Regularly updates and manages projects via Squint Opera’s online production tools including G-docs, F-track and Smartsheets
  • File management and organisation
  • Asset wrangling and management 
  • Research for projects where necessary 
  • Organise project reviews and team meetings, taking minutes and collating feedback and comments
  • Assisting the planning of shoots in the UK and internationally including crewing, kit hire, location permissions, talent bookings and scheduling
  • Acting as runner on shoots, assisting the producer
  • Assisting with studio presentations and covering reception

 

Clients

  • Communicating with the client, where required
  • Attends meetings, workshops and shoots alongside the producer 
  • Helping to prepare client presentations

  • Previous experience in a similar role within creative production or project management
  • Experience with Google docs/Google slides 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite
  • Able to adapt well and priorities

  • Ability to research creative concepts
  • Keen interest in design and architecture and a desire to work within the cultural space
