The historic Peak Tram has evolved from a transport mode to an iconic Hong Kong tourist attraction, drawing over six million visitors annually before COVID-19.

Now that Hong Kong is open again to visitors worldwide, the Peak Tram is ready to welcome an increasing number of visitors. “The expanded Central terminus with five entertainment zones will help to reduce passenger waiting times by over 70%. People no longer need to wait for over 90 minutes outdoors to get on the tram. They can stay in the covered, temperature-controlled queueing and waiting areas and learn about Hong Kong’s culture, history, and nature,” – May Tsang, general manager at The Peak Tramways Company, says.

Squint/Opera’s dynamic, immersive media installations enliven the queueing area, respect the Peak Tram’s heritage, and allow content flexibility, such as the addition of media promoting special events.

But they also help manage visitor flow at terminals, engage visitors from the very start to the very end of their journey and ultimately transform the tram journey into a full-blown attraction on its own.

“We have worked hard to integrate technology and engaging interactivity, giving passengers an immersive Peak Tram-themed experience at all guest touchpoints,” Tsang says.
