Hollywood Costume

Squint goes to Hollywood

Hailed as a ‘groundbreaking multimedia exhibition’, Hollywood Costume, at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles, showcased more than 100 of the world's most iconic movie costumes. Packed with drama and cinematic magic, the captivating experience was created by exhibition design firm Casson Mann working with Squint/Opera.

The show, which opened at the V&A in London, was the museum’s second biggest crowd puller in 20 years and has been touring the world since, finishing in Los Angeles at the historic Wilshire May Company Building, the future home of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

Our work included creating a series of dramatic animated film installations that explored the central role of costume design in cinema storytelling. We wove together the narratives using a rich selection of montages, film clips and projections to tell the stories behind the exhibits and set them firmly in context. Our brief was to create a unifying concept for each of the nine filmic experiences, and introduce a real playfulness to each focal point. The installations include a deconstructed Indiana Jones costume set and an animated table explaining the design process for Ocean's 11 costumes placed amid a vortex of quotes.

We won the DRUM award for best digital design in recognition of our work on the project.
